The first ever Albedo Dreams Kite Making Workshop was organised in Nordic House, Reykjavik, Iceland. The local kite expert Sævar Lindal taught us how to make kites and we made some seven box shaped white kites and fly them, too. The idea was to reflect sunlight back to the space with these kites in order to cool the climate and this way mitigate climate change. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy which affects the results – but for sure we had a tons of fun and know how to do this on a sunny day, too. We are going to fly the kites on the coming week-end so stay tuned for the location details and time to see them.
There was also other whitening actions organised in Reykjavik 101-area in between 1st and 4th of March: cars got white covers and the rock bed by the say was whitened for several days.
The residency that enabled these activities was organised by The Festival and ANTIfestival. I’m working with a project called Albedo Dreams which is DIY climate manipulation or geoengineering. It is a continuation for work I’ve done with albedo in the forest.
